Dating back to the 1930’s, the building that is The Restaurant at The Cheshire has served as a gathering place for people wanting to share a good time over a great meal. It is in that spirit that the historic building has been restored and reinvented. After closing for nearly two years and undergoing a massive, multi-million dollar renovation, the iconic building reopens as home to four unique dining experiences.
The anchor is The Restaurant. The Restaurant is a true blend of the old and new. Dark wood beams and stained glass windows live alongside contemporary accents and sleek lighting. And all throughout, little details balance with drama. A giant climate-controlled wine wall houses some of the 1,700 types of wine and serves as the glowing backdrop of the bar. A cozy stone fireplace – original to the building – is tucked in a corner where it is used to sear the crème brulee. All of the elements come together seamlessly to create a one-of-a-kind dining experience.
The Restaurant’s mission is to present a seasonally inspired menu that celebrates the bounty of flavors from right here in our community. The menu changes daily, giving our team the flexibility to experiment with what’s in season in order to deliver a unique experience every time you visit. We make all of our pastas, breads, desserts and ice creams in house and proudly partner with many local purveyors including: Rain Crow Ranch, Marcoot Farms, Baetje Farms Goat Cheese, Ben Roberts Heritage Poultry, Earth Dance Farms, Theis Farms, River to River Farms, Ozark Forest Mushrooms, Claverach Farms, Green Dirt Farms and American Pasture Pork.

The Restaurant at The Cheshire offers several great options for groups looking for a more private dining experience. In the back of The Restaurant is the Red Room, a cozy space tucked away behind giant sliding barn doors. The space can accommodate 40-50 people for a seated dinner or up to 70 people for a reception style event.
If your event calls for a larger space, Upstairs at The Cheshire is an excellent option. The private event space on the second floor features a stunning vaulted ceiling with dark wood beams, original to this historic landmark building. Accented with contemporary Italian light fixtures, the unique room is like none other in St. Louis.
Guests will be wowed as they enter from the grand staircase. One contiguous space, Upstairs even features a working fireplace and original stained glass diamond-paned windows. The flexible layout can accommodate 200 seated or 225 standing, making it the perfect choice for rehearsal dinners, wedding receptions, private dinners, cocktail receptions and more.

Celebrate the close of 2014 with a one-of-a-kind party at The Cheshire’s multi-restaurant and event space. Starting at 7:30 pm, doors open for guests to enjoy a complex-wide party, including live entertainment by local band Whiskey Morning and a champagne toast at midnight. Guests can look forward to the below schedule of events:
- 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm Basso will serve Italian favorites including pizza and meatballs with an open bar*
- 7:30 pm – 11:00 pm The Restaurant will offer American fare, including carving stations plus seafood stations that include oysters, shrimp, and an open bar**

Rex Hale brings over 25 years of culinary experience and acclaim to his position as the executive chef at The Restaurant at The Cheshire. His extensive resume includes positions at a number of notable restaurants around the world, from South Africa to California and Antigua to the British Virgin Islands, including Baby Ruth in Dallas and The Ojai Inn in Ojai, CA.
He also currently serves as Executive Chef at St. Louis hot spot, Three Sixty, where he has crafted an innovative small plates menu that focuses on sourcing products from premier local purveyors. Hale has been closely involved with Restaurant before it opened and his passion for ingredient-driven food is reflected in the menu for The Restaurant. Whenever possible, he sources and utilizes products from local farms, sustainable fish mongers and environmentally responsible meat programs. He is dedicated to cultivating those relationships with local vendors, and to training and growing his team to have the same passion.
